Welcome to the Haringey Phoenix Group.
There are at least 1,500 people who are registered blind or partially sighted in the London Borough of Haringey. The Phoenix Group is a registered charity, based at the Winkfield Centre in Wood Green which works with and for all visually impaired people in the area.
Unlike many of the larger organisations based in London, the Phoenix group works very much at a local grassroots level, helping blind and partially sighted people to maintain their independence and supporting them, as far as possible, in their own homes.
The Phoenix runs a wide range of classes for its members, offers one to one support when necessary, provides visual awareness training for medical students and organises an information desk at eye clinics in local hospitals. It has close links with Haringey Council's Sensory Impairment Team as well as other local groups and organisations.
Most importantly, the Phoenix works to promote the interests and rights of visually impaired people both at local and national level.
